The founder, Sam Gill, had the product vision but was a non-technical founder - and the budget was tight. The team needed a trusted technology partner who could deliver a full dating platform without burning the runway.
The requirements were demanding: Australia-wide reach, 18+ audience, all genders and orientations, and a revenue model based on paid features rather than ads. The platform had to bridge the gap between people looking for partners - and do it reliably from day one.

Hukup went live in Australia with the full feature set and a revenue model in place. The proof of the work is in the founder's own words: 'I have no hesitation in saying that it was the best experience in comparison to previous projects with other companies. Matching on Hukup is filter-based. Today we would build AI-powered compatibility scoring - learning what actually leads to meaningful connections from behaviour, not just declared preferences - plus AI moderation that keeps a dating platform safe at scale. Safety and match quality are the two things that make or break a dating product, and both are AI problems now.
